Very difficult to get tomtom device fixed

Hello tomtom. I have been using my tomtom start device for more than a year and it has suddenly stopped working, It starts but gets stuck at the screen with the tomtom and hands beating it. I cannot get to the menu or the maps. I have gone through the process of logging many queries on the tomtom website. Many queries were sent to Naomi and Maria from Tomtom online support and it seems all their methods regarding software are not working. I have bought four tomtom devices in the past and have never had any problems I have this current one as I have had numerous breakins at my property right after my mother passed away. Tomtom devices are great. I was told by Maria now that because the warranty is out of date the charge to get it fixed is 75 pounds. I am loyal tomtom purchaser and I don't know why my device is no longer working. Please could tomtom assist me as I have logged more than 6 queries with tomtom online and this price is very steep. I do believe that Tomtom shouldn't charge such an amount especially as 75 pounds could buy me a new device and the staff haven't been able to put me in contact with someone locally. Please could tomtom assist me. Many thanks.
