Don't buy TomTom in South Africa

I bought a new top of the range TomTom about 30 months ago.
The battery packed up totally about 2 months ago, taking no charge whatsoever.
I took it back to where I bought it and told them I knew it was out of guarantee but would gladly pay for a replacement battery.
They told me TomTom had no repair center in South Africa, so I must phone TomTom overseas.
This I did, but after about 4 weeks of fighting was told quite succinctly, that as I lived in South Africa where they had no own representation, there was nothing they could or were prepared to do, so basically so sad too bad.
So anyone who does buy TomTom in SA, good luck in trying to get any service after the warranty expires.
Isn't it great to not be in South Africa where our consumer protection act can be treated with contempt.
