My phone reported that WhatsApp downloaded 1.1GB of data overnight. This used up my entire data bundle for the month and added R70 to my phone bill.
It did not update:
1. I already had the latest version
2. My phone is only set to update WhatsApp on WiFi
3. NO UPDATE should be 1.1GB
I did not receive any media or messages during the night and WhatsApp network usage reported only 5MB of data received and 1.1GB of message data. Strange considering I didn't actually get any messages.
I have tried to email them twice, but they just send an automated reply, telling me to try their FAQ, which is obviously not helpful.
I have encountered others with the same incident - quite a GIANT bug. Everyone be warned.
