I am on a Hospital Plan and am aware that I am not covered for certain things. However I contacted Discovery Health via email and asked if I was covered for a Pap Smear. I was informed that I am covered for one, there was no mention made of the fact that it is only for the laboratory fee.
I went and had it done and sent the invoice through to the claims department. The claim has subsequently been rejected as apparently they only cover the lab fee for the pap smear. If this had been mentioned to me in the initial email I would never have had it done!!! The total cost was R850, I only earn R7000 a month! I am not out of pocket. I find this misleading and totally unacceptable.
