My niece was admitted for early labour, paid R25000 and when the baby was born on a saturday afternoon, and needed extra oxygen and therefore needed to go to ICU, they wanted R100000 before they treated the baby! after enquiring If we could pay just for the one night instead of five nights in ICU and come up with the cash as service is delivered on a day to day basis, they flatly refused to except the R20000 for the saturday night and wanted the full amount!! where can one get that kind of cash in a matter of minutes when every avenue (banks etc) is closed on a Saturday afternoon!! Only after the paediatrician came in to see the kid and asked the matron to make arrangements for R40000 deposit as the child might only need it for 24hrs, did the hospital agree!!! where is the justice, and the oaths that these people take up!!! All this hospital wants 2 do now is make money!!! linmed has been our family hospital for 20 years but after todays incident, they need to be dealt with and taken up with the medical board!!! We had to contact all the families to come up with the cash so the baby could be attended to, and then the reception says if the baby becomes critical they will attend to him!!
