My mom is on my medical aid and I pay R3034 per month for her alone. She need to go in next week for a shoulder operation. She experience so much pain that she can't even down to sleep. The specialist asked that she must be admitted the day before to be examined by a physician. She is 82 years old. The forms was sent to Bestmed for authorisation on the 20th of January. The 21st I received an sms with an authorisation no for the 11th Feb - pre-op day. I called to confirm that everything is covered. Then they told me that I must get a motivation letter from the doctor for the pre-op day. I sent it to Bestmed the 30th, asking for feedback. I never received anything. I called again this morning, the lady told me, Sorry but Bestmed will not pay for the pre-op day. This is a week before the operation!!! Why didn't they tell me that in the first place. The doctors are fully booked and now I need to make a plan that she can see the doctor before the operation. I think this is totally unacceptable. If they don't want to pay for that, just let me know in time!! I also sent in a claim with the receipt that I paid the doctor in full but still after 2 e-mails & 2 calls, they still pay the dr!
