I have been a client of Bestmed for more than 10 years, in more than 10 years I have never claimed from Bestmed for any medical expenses. After more than 10 years not ever missing one instalment in this 10 years, I wanted to claim the cost for an operation for a mantle membrane rupture. It was recommended to be done by a world renown professor, professor Heinz Van der Walt, I supplied Bestmed with all the necessary documents required to authorise the operation, I went for the operation on Monday the 8th of April, on Friday the 5th of April in the afternoon they informed me that they will not authorise the operation, this is very short notice and unacceptable. I have paid my premuim for more than 10 years, and the first time I claim in more than 10 years the claim is declined. The reason for not authorising was as follows, they are not satisfied with the motivation, keep in mind this is a world renowned professor, not being satisfied with the motivation for the operation? I really can't understand this. What do they then need to authorise an operation? I am really extremely disappointed in the way my claim was handled by Bestmed Medical Scheme. It is totally unacceptable.
