Free GP visits

Dear Discovery,

I have recently paid a visit to my GP. I had R40 in my savings account, but I did not worry because after all, the scheme I am on allows 6 free visits to the doctors in the Discovery network.

I wondered, should I exhaust the R40 in my savings by buying some Paracetamol before I can make use of Discovery's 6 free GP visits or would Discovery cover my visit anyway, out of the 6 free visits I had, since there is nowhere in SA that you can get a GP consultation for R40 only?

I've submitted my claim and I get a response from Discovery that since I had R40 in my savings account, they are not going to cover the difference and I cannot make use of the 6 visits I am entitled to.

I want to know what kind of judgement is this, where you won't give me the free GP visits I am entitled to as a member of Discovery Health, because I still had an insignificant amount of savings. I'd rather you take the R40 from my savings PLUS one of the free visits than not reimburse me at all and sit with free GP visits I can't use.
