So, I must go for a Gastroscopy. My GP referred me to a doctor that does procedures in the Medi-Clinic. When I phoned I was advised that there will be a R3200 deducted from our medical savings. This is really insane - after additional information I was even more shocked. Apparently Discovery waves this amount if a client only has a hospital plan and no savings. Discovery I just wants to drain the savings, why I don't know. It's the same with doctors appointments. You deduct it from the savings first and if nothing is left them you pay 4, 6 or 8 visits... this is so wrong and unethical!!! Why double standards?? Our medical aid costs R3500 pm and you can't even pay that R3200 from the hospital benefits - not that it's even necessary as you wave it for people with a hospital plan only... I'm really saddened by this as this procedure is not done by choice and Discovery just wants to us dry...
