I am a very patient person and understand that there are procedures etc. in place with regards to medical aids and how they work but this morning I have been left literally with tears in my eyes and wanting to bang my head against the wall. My daughter unfortunately has to have her medication changed - she was diagnosed at the beginning of the year with ADD after OTs, Connors reports etc. Her currently medication is not working as well anymore and we need to change it to Concerta 18mg. I was advised to put her onto the chronic benefit which will help my poor savings account. After chatting to a lady this morning, I was advised on the procedure but then told that I cannot use the GP that has been treating her from day one (as he is not on their list - but on the Fedhealth list) and that I would have to be referred by him to a specialist/someone else (who has not treated her) extra costs and someone I do not even know, all for the same information. I am not happy!!! To me this is totally unacceptable as I have only dealt with one doctor who knows her situation and was monitoring her progress - now i have to change because he is not on the list! I never had this with Discovery!!!
