I am disgusted by our treatment by Discovery Vitality. I joined Vitality when my girlfriend was moved on to my medical aid, after she lost her job.. For the sole reason that she could keep her gym membership. At some point last year I contacted my discovery broker to ask if "there was a minimum attendance requirement for her to keep her gym membership? " He replied not.
In January of this year she was informed that as she had not met minimum attendance requirements her membership fee would be more than doubled with no warning at all. This is disgusting. We have written evidence to show that Discovery have warned other members in writing they are not meeting their attendance requirements. Which must amount to an unfair trading practice! Surely you can not choose who you want to warn!
Further they want to charge her money to cancel her contract. Surely the consumer protection act has something to say about this. Needless to say I am cancelling my vitality immediately if they can not deal with this honourably how can they be trusted to act with honour else where?
