If you're looking for a good medical aid scheme... whatever you do... avoid Medshield. Not only are the cover and refunds pathetic but the service is disgraceful. After submitting my first claim after 3 years of membership, for a short hospital stay and foot operation... I e-mailed and faxed my claim. I got absolutely no response. After about 3 weeks, when I contacted them, I was told the fax wasn't clear and I had to resend the claim. This happened 3 times! Nobody every followed up on the so-called unclear faxes. A delay tactic indeed. When I persisted with phone calls, I eventually got R4000 refund for a R17000 claim. Why bother having Medshield cover? Do yourself a favour and avoid this medical scheme at all costs.
