My child needs to have extractions to his teeth done in theater, I phoned for authorization last week Tuesday 02/07 and was told by customer services that he is above 5 years old, he would need to have the procedure done in the dentist rooms.
I have checked my booklet and have gone through the internet and checked up against DENIS and I can not find anywhere that says a child has to be 5 years and below to obtain authorization for theater.
I have been to 2 reputable dentists that have confirmed that these extractions are best suited to be done under general anesthetic. What I can not understand is that Sizwe is willing to pay for the Anesthetist and the doctors bill but will not authorize theater. I have spoken to customer services at DENIS, who advised me to get a copy of the Scheme rules from sizwe, I have sent a mail both to sizwe and to DENIS on the 03/07, DENIS replied & stated in the guide"General anaesthetic benefits are available for very young children"My son is 9 years old, does this make him a teenager or maybe an adult in your eyes... for me he is certainly still very young. This is rather sad that I now have to pay cash YET I pay a substantial amount to medical
