We stayed at the cottages with friends for 7 nights. One couple could not make it as the one person was admitted urgently to ICU two days before we were due to arrive. They did not notify the establishment as they had other things on their minds! The owner managed to fill the booking with people for 5 of the 7 nights. When we left, he stated that he would charge the other couple ONLY for the 2 nights that they did not fill the cottage. However, he now has claimed that he also meant that he would keep the 50% deposit they had paid. This was certainly NOT what he had committed to when we left and we did at the time think this was fair. He has now, however, made the 50% deposit, plus payment for the 5 nights he filled the cottage AND claims he is being helpful by charging only an additional two nights - in other words he has made more money out of the week than he would have had our friends been able to come. We feel strongly that this is reneging on a commitment and would probably not stay there again or recommend this to friends as it has left a seriously unpleasant taste!
