Honda SA
Honda dealers not interested in engine problem

I bought a Honda Accord in Dec 11.By Dec 12 I had 57 000 km of no problems but early Dec 12 a warning light came on. I took it immediately to Honda George who reset computer and told me there was a problem with either catalytic converter or sensor. They said that I should get the problem solved at my next service - only 2 000 km away. The light returned immediately and I went to JHB on holiday as planned and booked it in for service at East Rand Honda advising them of what George had said. On 2nd Jan I took it in for service and reiterated the story. When I collected I was told the computer did not indicate a problem but the light actually came on during the test run and the car was handed back with the light still on! On 1 Feb and back in CT I took the car into Tygerberg Honda to sort out. I explained the problem and history again, adding that prior to Dec 12, fuel consumption was 8.3 lire/100 km whereas after the light had started coming on, it had increased to 12.4 litre/100 km. They later phoned, me and said the problem was the battery needed replacing. They did this at a cost of R1054 and not 15 mins after collecting, the light went on again.
