Bmw South Africa
Charged for wrong diagnosis

I took in my car to repair the inlet vanos gear, the waterpump and a miss. After the repairs the car still misfired in cylinder 6. Initial fault finding started with checking plugs and electronics. The fault was not found.

The technician suspected a bent valve and i was called to give permision to strip the cylinder head to find out whats going wrong. The head was checked and also sent to the engineer and no fault was found that would cause the misfire. I was then told that they will have to remove the piston and look for worn rings. The rings were fine. The block was then stripped to check for wear.

I was told that the bore was worn and that was the reason for the misfire as ther was low compression in the cylinder. I waas ask to replace the engine with a new or 2nd hand one. I spoke to another technician in Empangeni about the report and the findings and he asked me to get a 2nd opininion. I towed my car from BMW ballito with the engine totally stripped. I paid R17000 rand for the stripping and diagnosis and another R11000 for the orinal work done.

We found the camshaft broken when 2nd opinion was done. The repair ended up costing 3 times the value as result.
