I returned a car to Avis after having filled it up at a petrol station about 2 km away from the drop-off zone at OR Tambo airport. First they charged me R58.17 for petrol, when I queried it they changed their minds and refunded me R38.95, leaving R19.23.
This was the 2nd time Avis did this; the other time they refunded me in full.
I write to Granton, who replied that (I quote) "After investigating what happened on your rentals we found that the agents that closed the two rentals in question, closed off the rentals incorrectly."
Yet, despite me having emailed them a scanned copy of my petrol receipt, they refuse to refund me the R19.23. That's about a litre of petrol - not enough to show a 'not full' tank, and besides, I filled it up right before.
Granton wrote "Attached the quality control forms used when the vehicle was checked does stipulate that the vehicle was 7/8 full and not totally filled to the brim, due to this reason the branch has decided not to refund you with a further R 19.23."
This makes no sense. If it was 7/8th full as they claim it'll take more than R19 of petrol to fill it up. And it was full.
I've since heard that Avis does this 'all the time'.
