Holding back funds without notifications

Last year November we rented a vehicle from Avis, we paid the deposit of R750 and were told it's refundable after 6 working days. It has been 3 weeks and 8 days since we returned the vehicle and still we are struggling to get answers from Avis. A tree fell on the first vehicle and we had to get a second one. When Avis brought me the second vehicle they told me the excess on the first vehicle is R2800. I paid the R2800 cash. We returned the vehicle on 10 December at the OR Tambo Airport branch with a full tank of fuel. 6 days later there were no refund yet. We gave it a bit more time and phoned Avis on 20 December to enquire about our deposit. They advised me that they deducted R440 for petrol for the first vehicle which is understandable since we gave the vehicle back empty. Avis told me they charged me R75 for petrol but they will refund that as I returned the vehicle with a full tank. On the 24th they phoned me and said that they forgot to charge us VAT on the excess and that is what the remaining amount went for. This is! I will take this matter further if Avis don't refund me the R300 they owe me. The unpaid VAT was not my fault, Avis slipped up BIG TIME!
