Money taken from my credit card without my consent

On the 3rd of August 2013 i paid an amount of R1 500 to Herzt car hire as arranged. To my surprise they went ahead and took R2 970.00 from my Standard Bank credit card without my knowledge and or consent. They used my credit card details obtained when i last hired a car from them. I then phoned a certain Angelique in Cape Town (021 980 8914) and complained about the deduction of money from my credit card and she promised to investigate and report back. She phoned and told me that it was a mistake and that they were going to reverse the transaction and refund my money. When another week went past without any reversal, i phoned her again and made it clear to her that unless they correct their mistake i was going to go public about it. She then promised that an email will be sent to me to confirm the reversal of the deduction on that day. That was the last time (13/08/2013 @ 11h58) i ever heard from her and still my account has not been credited with the money deducted. My concern is, how safe is the information that one provides companies like HERTZ if they can just deduct any amount from their clients credit cards without any authourisation or the clients knowledge?
