Application take way too long

I've applied for an American Express Card six days ago. To date, I have not received any feedback whether my application has been approved or declined.

I've received an SMS from them, one business day after the application, saying they will "contact me shortly", but several days later, still no feedback. I've phoned their card division twice, the first consultant said it takes 4 days to get an answer, the second one said 7-10 business days.

I can't believe it takes this long - in all my life when I applied for finance, whether it was for car finance, personal loans or credit cards - have I never waited this long for any financial institution to finalise an application.

This delay is now affecting my financial planning, since I do not want to apply with 10 different companies at once - so I need an answer from them!
