FNB charges me a late payment fee of R210.00. According to their terms and conditions this is applicable to accounts that were opened prior to 1 June 2007. However if you re-contract with FNB after 1 June 2007, the late payment fee does not apply.
In 2008, FNB contacted me to upgrade my silver card to a platinum card. Hence when I received the new platinum credit card, it would have had to be on the new NCA agreement.By me accepting the new credit card automatically constitutes a new agreement, which then entitles me to the benefit of not being charged a late payment fee of R210.
However when I called the call centre to dispute this, I am told that when I did a upgrade from my silver card to a platinum card, that this is called a card swap and hence does not mean that I have been re contracted.
I would like FNB to explain to me what is the meaning of "card swap"- because when you offer a Platinum Card, this is considered an upgrade - swap means to exchange. You did not exchange my card. you sent me a new agreement because this included a new card and interest fees around a platinum package. Hence this constitutes an upgrade and essentially a recontact.
