Secure Banking a myth

I have been banking with absa for a while now; I was forgiving when I discovered that my transacting qualified me for Platinum status and ABSA Rewards I was not told sooner.

The latest and greatest to add salt to injury, on 29 January 2013 around midnight, I noticed activities on my account and notified the line 4 minutes later. The Consultant gave me a ref number and an instruction to hand in the card at any branch, collect another card, the card has been stopped.
The call sounded so convincing until later the following day 30 Jan (15:00 because I thought all I needed was a new card) when I was confronted with a reality of:

1. The card to be handed in was to be destroyed and a new one ordered;
2. The bank balance was reduced by 95% due to the illegal transactions
3. I had to make a statement to the division detailing the amounts withdrawn that I
was not aware of before I can be refunded, that was on the 30 Jan 2013.
A week ago I was sent a declaration form to complete that my statement was true.
I am still waiting for feedback, feeling bullied, the bank lost the money entrusted them, why must I be the one justifying anything, where are their controls.
