Cellphone number!

I went on Saturday to go and change my details of my account so that my sms notifications can stop going to the wrong number... stood in the queue for 25 minutes and the woman took my ID document and number, changed it within 2 minutes. I left and guess what... My cellphone number is still not changed. And I know the trouble my dad had that you can't even change your cellphone number over the phone... I do not have time to go to the bank during the week and have class on a Saturday so please tell me how the am I supposed to change my cellphone number so I can get my own banking notifications. It's extremely frustrating.
