Money disappearing into thin air

I set up a debit order for my partner for the 1st of each month and she never received the money. I've been to the FNB branches in Midrand and Bryanston for help but I was told to cancel the debit order and the money would automatically be reversed to my account... that was towards the end of Sept 2013, we are now towards the end of Oct and nothing has happened. I confirmed all my banking details as well as those of my partner's - all was correct.

When I called FNB customer service the first time I was told the money is in my other account - which I closed a while back, the second time around I was told that it doesn't reflect anywhere.

How does money just disappear and no one knows where it is??
