Standard Bank
POOR BANKING SERVICE

My daughter gets married on 24th Sept. Her grandfather comes out from N.Ireland to present a gift to her on 12/9/13 (R100, 000 ZAR cheque from Ulster Bank and believe me the cheque is good and the funds available). He also presents himself, along with his granddaughter to the branch on 2 occasions where all particulars (Passport no, proof of residence etc) is checked. The funds are credited to my daughter's account in Rondebosch for upwards of 12 days (during which time she was on honeymoon) then promptly debited to the account thereafter and the bank refuses to honour or follow up with the correspondent bank. No one can provide a rational reason, the cheque was good and in ZAR and now we're told the bank cannot find the cheque. It's absolutely unacceptable and my father, at the age of 77 and yet running a building society operation back in N. Ireland, is embarrassed and, quite rightly, appalled at the service and lack thereof. Now, over 1 month later we're informed a telegraphic transfer has to be done.
