I currently bank with FNB and Standard Bank. Recently I accepted an offer from Standard Bank for a home loan which I applied for. After signing the contract I was informed that I will not be awarded access bond facilities due to the fact that my salary is not deposited into my Standard Bank account but rather into my FNB account.
I am dissapointed because I was not informed of this before signing the agreement. Having had two previous homeloans with access bond facilities with Standard Bank I feel that I am now being discriminated because my salary is not being deposited into my Standard Bank Account.
My question now is, is this legally acceptable for a bank to decline access bond facility on the basis that you do not bank with them. Also is this not anti-competitive conduct?
