SMS balance notifications - not accurate

Can someone please explain why this month of all months there are such delays/discrepancies with "outstanding card transactions". I budget according to the "balance" i receive notification of by sms after cheque card transactions. These have been totally out this month due a delay in processing of transactions it seems. This has happened once or twice in the past but not to this extent?? what is going on?? I don't understand also if I look at my internet statement it seems the "outstanding "transactions are in fact deducted from the balance but next thing I get a huge shock.
