I was offered and upgrade from FNB Platinum (Cheque & Credit Card) to Graphite from my premier banker. I was notified that the only additional charge would be if I utilised the overdraft facility on my the Graphite Cheque account, which was not required at any stage. To my surprise a single bank charge of R417.00 was deducted from my cheque account. After lodging a inquiry - the consultant standing in for my premier banker notified me that a standard charge of R345.00 per month for combined charges on the Cheque and Credit Card would be charged each month. This was not mentioned during the offer to upgrade phone call and I find this selling technique very devious. If you are reading this and you receive an offer to upgrade, consider that the charges will equate to a staggering R4140.00 per year, this is daylight. I have always had excellent service from FNB, however this incident has left me considering a move to an alternate banking institution.
