My 8 year old daughter wants a bank account with no other bank but FNB and her Grandmother wants to open one for her, They went to FNB small branch and the ladies there confirmed that yes FNB can open an account for her and all they need is her Granmother's proof of residence and her birth certificate but they must go the main branch to open the account, they walk to the main branch only to be told that the Grandmothers investment statement from Capitec is insufficient as they need a bank statement and anyway no Grandmotehrs, uncles or any relative of a minor child can open an account for the child, it has to be the mother, Seriously in this day and age, how many kids are being prejudiced like that because their parents are dead or unemployed and they are being raised by grandmothers and uncles. When has a proof of residence had to be a bank statement? I thought what was required on a proof of residence was the names of the person and an address, not at FNB apparently, The grandmoter as is has an investment account with FNB and for her to get that acount opened we had to complain on Hello Peter, I will stick ith my Beep bank and I hope my daughter can get over the discriminating FNB.
