Sending customers up and down with no service

We went to the bank early this morning, I wanted to open a student account for my daughter, but she is only 14 and I understand that she cannot open her own account. I asked the lady helping at the door what we need to open the account for her, she told me proof of residence but I dont have statements with my address so she gave me a form for my husband to complete and said that I need to bring his ID book. I went all the way back to work to get this done and went all the way back to the bank with all the documents just to get told that they cannot let me open the account for her and that my husband has to do it as they need his fingerprint. Now I ask you why was I not told this the first time around, this was just a waste of time and petrol. It makes me wonder if I should rather just go to another bank...
