First National Bank
Closing of account

I went to an FNB branch at Cresta to close my business account. After some months I received an account closure letter through an email from FNB legal people telling me that I owe R785.29 and that if I don't pay it within 30 days they will list my name on credit bureaux. I contacted FNB and told them that I closed the account and I was told to produce proof that I closed the account, but unfortunately I did not keep the confirmation documents that I did go to a branch to close the account. They told me that I have to pay the amount since I do not have proof. I then requested the account numbers where I can pay the amount, the 1st person I spoke to gave me the account number, but because I didn't have time to go to a branch, I called them and asked for a branch code so that I can transfer the money and send proof of payment, but they told me I can't pay online, n that I have to pay at a branch. I really didn't have time to go to a branch and stand on a queue, Yet they claim to be ahead with technology. I will never use FNB again and I will never advise anyone to. Other banks don't give you hard time when you have to close accounts, they just assist you telephonically.
