I went to the Cresta Shopping Centre branch to close my account with Capitec.

Reason for closing my account is simple, I now work for your competitor and I bank for free, so did not see the use in having a Capitec account when I get great benefits with my new employer.

Anyway, walked into the branch, told your consultant I would like to close the account and then he asked me to give him my gold debit card. I lost my card last week, but since my balance in that account is really like R2.50 - I did not worry about it as I knew I would close the account soon.

According to your consultant, I can not close the account if I do not present the card. No way around it. I asked his advise and he told me that I need to apply for a new card (which I will be charged for) and THEN come back to close the account.

In other words, please pay for a new card. Lets then swipe the new card, cancel the new card and close the account.

Seriously???

I have closed accounts at all the 'Big four' banks and NONE of them asked me to swipe the card to close the account.

This is probably why Capitec is not one of the 'BIG' banks in SA!
