First National Bank
FNB deducts instalment after 10 years

I had an FNB Credit card which was active over 10 years ago. Due to financial difficulty at the time, I could not pay the minimum amount due on this card's purchases. This of course caused the account to go unpaid, it went through the legal process, my name was registered with the credit bureau as a bad payer and I sufferred all the negativities that that action brought. For the past 10 years I was never contacted regarding this debt.

A few years ago I opened a Current Account at FNB. With the restructure of their packages, my account was even automatically upgraded to their Platinum Cheque Current Account range and still no mention was made regarding the outstanding Credit Card balance. Now, 10 years later, without my authority, and without consultation, FNB has deducted an instalment of in excess of R1500 against that credit card debt.

In this economy I certainly cant do without that kind of unplanned expense. My fear is that this will continue to happen every month on the date I get my salary deposited. So in order to prevent this from happenning again this month, I am closing my FNB account and listing them here as a warning to others.
