South Africans: If you are thinking of going on debt review. Beware
As consumers in financial trouble in 2007 we thought we were doing the right thing going on debt review to protect our assets. After completing debt review after almost 7 years we have found this the biggest mistake we have ever made.
Where vehicle finance with Wesbank is concerned, debt review did not help us at all.
We paid accounts according to a payment plan for 6 years, including that of Wesbank.
On requesting our car papers after completing debt review payments Wesbank refused.
This after accepting the payments for the entire debt review period.
Wesbank further took legal action, taking judgment on our name, and getting a court order which was used by the sheriff and debt collectors to repossess our vehicle on Friday 25th October at 19h30
We have letters from debt counselor sent to all credit providers that we have fulfilled our obligations on debt review.
Wesbank still got a court order to attach our car, even while we are supposedly under the protection of a debt review court order.
