FNB has all these wonderful advertisements about how cheap they are and how easy it is to move to them.
Well in my case it was impossible and I had to give up.
I'm an ABSA customer with a Credit Card, Cheque Account and Savings Account. I went onto FNB's website and select the CALL ME BACK option so that I can speak to an consultant to check my options for moving from ABSA to FNB.
In the end it boiled down to the fact that, because I was renting and do not have a statement with my physical address on it I could not apply for the overdrafts. This was confirmed twice by the Kuilsriver FNB branch. I went as far as typing a letter and got it certified at the Police Station. Not even that was enough. Furthermore, I could only open a Cheque Account without an overdraft because my salary apparently needed to go into that account for 3 months before I can apply for overdraft.
My wife moved from Standardbank to FNB all done in one Saturday morning. Why is there so much nonsense when I tried to move.
Nevertheless, I went into the FNB branch and let them close all accounts and stop all processes that they already started.
All of a sudden, I am happy to be a ABSA customer again!
