First National Bank
Bank Charges

What I am about to complain about will come as no surprise to many South Africans who use banks. Matters relating to South African Banks' excessive charges are nothing new to us; but that does not mean we cannot have our say. I am sure that FNB is not the only one guilty of this but it is the bank that I bank with and thus this complaint is directed squarely to them.

I went to my local branch last week to get a hard copy of my FNB bank statement for personal purposes. There are several official institutions that require print outs from actual banks, so there was no way of getting around this. I was informed that my bank statement was 8 pages long. This was alright until I found out that it was going to cost me R9.90 per page. It was shocking, to say the least. The pricing is totally unfair and exorbitant. It is not like the paper is gold plated. My statement came out on normal A4 paper that we all use on a daily basis. The R80 that I paid could have bought me a entire packet of paper; and incase you were maybe thinking about labour costs; it was a simple for my banker as logging into their e-mail account.

FNB, please review these costs, even your staff think its ridiculous!
