I closed my debit card because I had not been using it for years. I have never been in arrears with my account because I do not buy on credit. I received a letter, saying: Dankie vir u korrespondensie waarin u ons versoek om u rekening te sluit. Die rekening is gesluit... After this I received another letter, stating that Standard Bank had cancelled my credit card due to non-payment. This letter also threatened to take me to court if I don't pay the due amount whereas I don't owe anybody any money.
I have been banking for twenty years with Standard Bank and am very disappointed that I am treated like this. I do not know who sent the second letter, but that person should be severely reprimanded.
