Insurance mess-up

I bought a house and got a quote from Dial Direct for Buildings cover. I currently have home contents cover with them, so I took their quote. As the house was in the process of transferring, I was unable to give a start date (I knew it would be around the end of October, but the consultant told me he had to set the start date, at that time, for the 30th of September; he then told me to phone back on the 23rd of September to push the initiation date of my policy by a month, which I promptly did. When I phoned I was told they COULDN'T push back the date (imagine my horror), but they would put a hold on my debit order for the month. I woke this morning to find the my account debited for the full amount.

To add insult to injury, this whole process also required that I change my physical address to the new house (The one I don't own and am not living in). This means that my home contents is only covered there. So if someone breaks into my current residential address, I am not covered.

Please help me fix up this huge mess
