I banked with Standard Bank for most of my life. However, I decided to close my accounts with them. I was living overseas for three years, during which time I assumed my account would go dormant. Which it didn't and I was welcomed back to a statement well in the negatives due to the overdraft facility. I understand this may be my fault, however, when I asked what I could do about the situation I was told I have to close the account. Which I did, paying the full amount owed. The SB employee destroyed my cards and I was assured the account was closed. Over three months later I am still receiving email statements showing a negative statement for an account I have no access to.
All I get from customer complaints is that I have to go into the bank to close the account. Not sure what I am meant to close. I don't have the time for this and my patience is running low.
