My silver credit card (which suited me perfectly) was involuntarily upgraded to Gold. I did not ask for the upgrade, Standardbank just did it (without even notifying me). On my first Gold Card statement I see a service fee charge of R270.--. This charge used to be R185.--. Now this is clearly underhanded profiteering. After complaining at the branch, they, without any fuss, simply refunded R85.-- (I suppose they expect me to have forgotten about it next year). Be wary!
