I am a European citizen on a working permit, who has been living in the country for 5 years now.
All my documents are always up to date, I pay taxes and I never missed a payment.
My family lives in Europe, therefore i take trips to visit them. I normally exchange about R2000.00 (really small amount) into Euro to take with. Never been a problem to exchange. This morning with all my paperwork in my hand, freshly came from SARS with all relevant documents from SARS and my employer i came to the bank to exchange money as i am to go to Europe next week. The very unprofessional lady by the window, who seemed really confused looking at my passport told me after about 10 minutes of document filling, that the bank requires my employment contract (???) In what world does the bank has the right to see that? They can clearly see how much income i have from my statements, plus i had my IRP5 with me!! I am utterly disgusted by this experience and will make sure to bank with someone else from now on.
