My Daughter gave us plane tickets to visit my wives cousin in Netherland for our 60th birthday. She even arranged me a credit card at Standard bank where we deposited our spending money. I arranged with standard bank beforehand that I would use my cards in Europe. Lucky for me I took some euro's along. When trying to use my card, nothing worked. I could only draw money once from the bank, then standard bank blocked the card. I had 3 cards and could still use the second one to draw money, but thereafter all the card were blocked. Even my wives account that I did not use.
Before leaving on the trip, I said to standard bank I could be contacted by SMS only. NOT ONCE did they SMS me. On getting back to SA I find that all my accounts has been stopped - even my wives account that is not linked to mine. I need to go to the bank to find out what the problem is.
Needless to say, I stood with a red face every time a tried paying for anything. Our vacation of a lifetime was ruined due to Standard bank. We had to sit at home most of the time and do nothing or rely on other people sponsoring something - My wife and I are very disappointed in the bank.
