I wanted to transfer some money (from a job I did on the internet) to my local account. For security purposes, the foreign bank did a test transaction with my bank, then asked me to confirm the dollar amount. Nedbank were unable to tell me the dollar amount as I "had not initiated the transaction with them". I spent about 30 minutes in their branch trying to get help. I thanked them for wasting my time and the stock answer was "my pleasure"!
Fortunately, a 4 minute telephone conversation with the foreign bank (R5) will probably sort the problem out.
