Insurance Left Me Out Of Pocket

ABSA deducted an unauthorized amount from my account on 01/07/2013. I followed up immediately with an e-mail to ABSA, but no joy. Thanks to HelloPeter I got a response. Mr Clifford Dome (AIP Consultant, AFS Direct Delivey) informed me that this was for insurance on my car.

Upon disputing this, Mr Dome gave me some BS explanation that based on research by the Ombudsman for Short Term Insurance, only 35% of vehicles on our roads are insured. Not my problem!!

It is a pre-requisite that you supply proof of insurance BEFORE signing your finance contract and driving off with your new vehicle. ABSA Vehicle Financing HAD a copy of my insurance, NOTHING has changed in the past 18months & my insurance IS paid up to date. Who-ever AFS Direct Delivey is, I don't know & I don't care - except of course when they help themselves to my funds!

In terms of the Consumer Protection Act a supplier may not demand or assert any right to, or attempt to collect any payment from a consumer in respect of unsolicited goods or services. This unauthorized deduction is a serious breach of contract. You did NOT have my permission in writing and I demand a refund together with interest as from 01/07/2013
