Billing my account without my consent

My vehicle is financed through Absa bank since last year. In June 2013, early June, i got a call from their customer service to confirm if i had a car insurance for my car, and i told them i did. The lady said to me i should email a confirmation letter that i had a car insurance from my insurer and she gave me a due date. i asked her to email me the details because there was a possibility that i would forget, and then she said they were not allowed to send email or sms for that!! i forgot. Today an amount of R3 970 goes out of my account from Absa (my instalmnent is about R 2 800) and after a few minutes i get an sms from absa that an amount of R 1200 will be added to my instalment because i failed to provide them proof of insurance.
But why did Absa fail to send me an sms to remind me that i was suppose to email my insurance confirmation in time. Why deduct the money and send an sms nofication after you have already deducted. And who the made an insurance quotation of R 1200!!! who confirmed it?? i am so off with these banks ripping people off as if they have every right to do whatever they want to do just because its a BANK!!!
