I suffered a slip and fall at East Rand Mall on Saturday 6 April 2013 due to a Prestige Cleaning employee wheeling a large steel cart around the mall collecting dirt from stores etc. leaking liquid out at the bottom onto tiles and making them slippery. East Rand Mall - owned by JHI quickly passed the buck saying I must contact Prestige Cleaning as they are not liable. Prestige are contracted by JHI - how can they absolve themselves from a contractor they use in their mall??? Anyhow after being passed from pillar to post they send out Loss Adjusters (Crawford & Co.) who come interview me then do their "investigation" and report their "findings" to Prestige "LIability insurers" and send me a letter on 12 June 2013 stating "During our investigations we found no basis in law on which you can hold Prestige Cleaning Services Liability for the incident. In view of the above, our Principals have instructed us to advise you that your claim is rejected and that any action instituted will be defended". Isn't that just dandy - a huge corporate who hides behind their legalese to protect themselves from liability. They don't give a and that in itself is scary. We have NO protection.
