Homeloan pledge

I applied for a homeloan pledge from Standard bank in the beginning of May. Since then I have faxed through all documentation twice. I called twice and mailed all documents asked as well. For a month now my mails and faxes got passed around every time to someone else and then there is another either 48hour wait or 5 working day wait. Finally phoned again only to be told a month later, sorry I cannot apply for a pledge as I do not have an account with Standard bank... no where in this month long process did anyone tell me this and it does not state this on the internet. It only states that if you are not a Standard bank client then one must submit bank statements from the other bank... which I did. If it is this difficult to successfully do one process correct then why should I give any business to Standard bank in future?
