On 30 April I called TIC (part of Santam) to find out whether they would cover me for the following:
I am emigrating to Canada. My health insurance ends 30 June, but my flight is only 4 July & I arrive in Canada 5 July. I need emergency medical cover from 1-5 July, after which I will be covered in Canada. Jesse asked me to hold while he checked with someone, then said it was possible & sent me a quotation & policy wording. I didn't have a chance to read this until 17 May & then noticed 2 clauses in the wording "no travel for the purpose of emigration is covered" & "you must depart & return to your home country". I sent an email on 17 May to Jesse to again confirm what I had asked. No response & resent on 20 May to which he responded: "Please bear in mind that this is only a quote & not a confirmed policy. Your cover is only effective once you have gone through customs & valid for 32 days. This does not cover you for medical emergencies whilst in South Africa but only whilst overseas for the stated 32 day period." CLEARLY my query is not being understood! I called him today & he undertook to pull the call - have heard nothing since. This is such a simple query!
