We took out a medical aid with Discovery, the covered on 01/11/2013. Premiums was taken out on 4/11/2013. I received my card and documents on the 11/11/2013. After reading the very complicated document, we decided to cancel the policy. We called discovery on 13/11/2013, at first we were told we cannot cancel the policy & will also have to pay for December cover. When i called back &spoke to someone who didn't want to give me her name, she confirmed we can withdraw the policy within 30 day, but she wanted to speak to my husband. When he called in an hour later he was told we cannot cancel backdated and the premiums we paid i.e R2032 cannot be refunded. i understood withdraw to mean my cooling off period and also a refund. Why can't we get a refund considering we only receive our documents 11 days after the policy started? And why can't discovery communicate to its customers in a language they can understand. Isn't the consumer protection act supposed to protect us customers from these large corporations with their confusing documents. We would like a refund considering we didn't use the medical aid and was only covered for 13 days of which only 2days we knew what we are covered for.
