Shortly after moving to Australia, I contacted Nedbank to close my current account. Mrs. Landman (Nedbank Kempton Park branch manager) replied explaining that they need a signed letter and copy of ID document in order to do this.
I forwarded there documents to her promptly and the account was closed.
Last month, after all our funds had finally been transferred to Australia, I wanted my Nedbank MasterCard credit card cancelled and an overdraft on a second Nedbank account terminated. I was paying monthly service fees from the funds left in my account for facilities I was no longer using.
Three weeks ago, I tried to contact Mrs. Landman again, (since this is my home branch) I got no response to my request, I made another attempt one week ago, again, no response.
In the mean time, Nedbank has charged me over R100 in facility and service fees on my second current account, slowly eating away at the funds I have left in the account.
Soon, the credit card will also no longer have a credit balance because of some or other fees, then they'll refuse to close the account because I'll have a debit balance.
What can be done aside from spending hours on an international call?
